Lush Life
Music is certainly a healing force. On a Tuesday night in the West End of Atlanta, one can experience a musical journey at a necessary jazz spot called "Lush Life". On the night I was there Bassist/leader Mamaniji Azanyah and trumpeter/bass clarinetist Dash took us down a journey of free, dark yet bright explorations. From my perspective this was true improvisation. The music was out yet melodic, meditative yet intellectual. These offerings inspire you to listen, move your head, cry, feel for humanity etc. Took me to some interesting places. A great concern is that this music called jazz or African-american classical music is so under-appreciated and poorly supported. This is important foundational music and why we don't support those who share this music with us is a tragedy.

seldom is the impetus for purely creative expression an appeal to commercial considerations, and so the fact that it meets with such poverty of financial support - even from its most ardent disciples - evidences its value on an entirely different plane. and yet how shall those perform who cannot eat...
Human, well said. A very sad yet true commentary. In a society where material consumption is at a all time high regardless of the dire economy it is with shame that artists that have something substantial and very important in my opinion to share aren't given a higher respect so that they can indeed eat from their creative endeavors.
in a materialist society the benefit of purely creative expression is almost imperceptible and subsequently undervalued. that which is spiritual must be assessed and realized in spiritual terms. any material benefit at all manifests in consequence of a spiritual dictate. and so one gives thanks for such food as is provided.
Ah yes we must give thanks for the precious food provided. I'm thankful that this collective that began at Lush Life Cafe is once again offering their creative improvisational art to us once again. Human if you live in Atlanta, Ga or ever here on a Thursday night you must take part in the healing that's taking place and you will also have opportunity to participate in the offering.
